Methodology and sources

Success rates are sourced from the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority), the UK's independent regulator. We use “births per egg collection” — the most conservative and meaningful metric, counting live births as a proportion of all started cycles. This is harder to manipulate than “pregnancy rate per transfer” and gives patients the most honest picture.

Pricing data is collected from official clinic fee schedules and websites. “All-in” estimates include initial consultation, monitoring scans, egg collection, embryo transfer, and medication (average estimate). ICSI is included where the clinic bundles it. Individual treatment plans vary — always confirm costs directly.

Cost per live birth is calculated as: total all-in cost ÷ birth rate. For example, a clinic charging £6,000 with a 30% birth rate = £20,000 cost per live birth. This metric accounts for the probability of needing multiple cycles and is the single most important comparison number for patients.
